Grammar notes 34

There were some things in this chapter about politeness I didn't catch. Anyway as I'll keep the short notes first and put the bendings last.

これは can be used as an injection to express surprise.

And then there's EVEN MORE politeness. 頂く can be used in the potential form for even more politeness, and in negative potential for even more.

As for potential form, it has basically the same meaning as ことが出来る while not being quite as formal. The formed by, for ichidan verbs, drop the final る and appending られる. For yodan verbs perform wovel shift to e on the final character, then append る.
